Date: 4th August, 2026- ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Tripura organized a seed distribution programme at its campus in Belbari under the ICAR-IARI NEH Component and ICAR-IIPR NEH Component programmes to promote scientific agriculture and improve the livelihood and nutritional security of tribal farming communities. Under the ICAR-IARI NEH Component, quality vegetable seeds developed by the ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) were distributed to tribal farmers for both the Kharif and Rabi seasons. The distribution was aimed at demonstrating the performance and adaptability of improved vegetable varieties under the agro-climatic conditions of Tripura. Selected farmers also received blackgram seeds under the ICAR–Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR) NEH Component programme to encourage pulse cultivation and enhance farm income. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ganesh Das, Senior Scientist-cum-Head, ICAR-KVK West Tripura, stated that the vegetable seeds developed by ICAR-IARI are being distributed to demonstrate their field performance under local conditions and to encourage farmers to adopt improved varieties and scientific cultivation practices. He emphasized that such initiatives would contribute to higher agricultural productivity, improved nutritional security, and enhanced income of farming households. The programme was graced by Smt. Kajal Debbarma (Rupini), a distinguished social worker and community leader, as the Chief Guest. In her address, she emphasized the need for the active participation of farm women and farmers in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra to strengthen agriculture and achieve nutritional security in Tripura. She appreciated the efforts of ICAR-KVK West Tripura in disseminating improved agricultural technologies and quality inputs to the farming community. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Maibam Baby Devi, SMS (Home Science) and Dr. Nagaraju M. C., SMS (Agricultural Entomology). A large number of tribal farmers participated in the programme and interacted with the scientists on scientific crop production and crop management practices.
